In January 2018, Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women brought home several top distinctions, bolstering its reputation as one of the top places in the nation for women and babies to receive medical care.
The Pavilion for Women earned the coveted Blue Distinction Center for Maternity Care designation for its expertise in the delivery of safe, efficient, high-quality care to women and newborns. To become a nationally designated Maternity Specialty Care Center, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) evaluated the Pavilion for Women on a variety of quality and patient satisfaction measures.
BCBS noted the Pavilion for Women’s successful implementation of evidence-based breastfeeding practices to ensure our nurses, obstetricians and pediatricians are well trained to teach mothers how to breastfeed and maintain lactation to give newborns a healthy start.
The Pavilion for Women excelled in maternity quality measures including the rate of episiotomies performed and the administration of antenatal steroids, which are medications given to pregnant patients who are at risk for delivering their babies too early. The hospital has consistently exceeded the national target rate of 90 percent or above for antenatal steroid administration.
The Pavilion for Women also received exceptional marks in patient satisfaction.
In August 2018, the Pavilion for Women and two of its surgeons received superior patient care designations from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), which develops and administers best-in-class accreditation programs for surgeons, hospitals and freestanding outpatient facilities throughout the world.
After a rigorous review process, the SRC accredited the Pavilion for Women as a Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecology and recognized two of its surgeons – Dr. David Zepeda and Dr. Xiaoming Guan – as Surgeons of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology.
“Earning this accreditation signifies our ability to consistently deliver the safest, highest quality care to our patients,” said Nakeisha Archer, director of Perioperative Services for the Pavilion for Women. “Our program fosters quality improvement in surgery, and commitment to this process has focused our team on exceeding clinical benchmarks and guidelines. Most importantly, our commitment to excellence will improve the health and well-being of our patients. We are so proud to be leaders in quality care for women.”
Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery includes hysteroscopic, laparoscopic and/or vaginal procedures such as hysterectomies, fibroid removals and myomectomy excisions.
