Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands turns one
Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands celebrated its one-year anniversary in April 2018, exceeding the expectations of organization leaders and garnering accolades from patients and families seeking expert care closer to home.
During its first year, the hospital admitted more than 2,400 patients and completed more than 77,000 physician visits, more than 42,000 radiologic procedures and close to 31,000 therapy appointments. Surgical Services and the Emergency Center saw some of the highest patient volume, completing 6,222 surgeries and special procedures and 31,852 Emergency Center visits.
“These numbers prove The Woodlands and its surrounding communities needed world-class pediatric health care close to home,” said Assistant Vice President Trent Johnson. “Every time we’ve been in touch with families and patients, they always have positive feedback and say how much having Texas Children’s close to home has changed their lives for the better.”
The six-floor, 209,973-square-foot outpatient building opened in October 2017. The facility is connected to the hospital on floors one and two and offers a fresh, new, kid-friendly environment to families seeking the best pediatric care for their children.
The hospital’s unique design earned the 2018 Houston Business Journal’s prestigious Landmark Award in the medical category, which recognizes outstanding real estate projects in the Greater Houston area.
Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands achieved another significant milestone in 2018 with the recent Level III designation of its 14-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The designation by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) ensures that neonatal intensive care units have the resources and expertise to provide high-quality patient care that leads to the best outcomes for newborn patients and their families.
“This is an impressive accomplishment as we embark on our second year of operations and validates our commitment to providing world-class pediatric care to The Woodlands community and beyond,” said Ketrese White, director of Patient Care Services in The Woodlands. “The surveyors emphasized how impressed they were with our accomplishments to date and how well our team performed during this rigorous process.”
As the demand for care grows in the area, so will Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands. A new acute care unit, expanding the hospital’s capacity by 14 beds, opened in early 2019, and leadership is continuously strategizing on how and where to expand to meet needs.
